PMC & Vintage King: The Producer and Composer Session - Auro 3D® 9.1 Surround Demonstrations

PMC built an amazing 9.1 surround speaker setup with height channels, presenting the immersive 3D audio format “Auro-3D®.” It is designed along three layers of sound (surround, height and overhead ceiling), building on the single horizontal layer used in the 5.1 sound format. Auro-3D® creates a spatial sound field by adding a height layer around the audience on top of the traditional 2D surround sound system. This additional layer reveals both localized sounds and height reflections complementing the sounds that exist in the lower surround layer. Various music and movie examples will evidence how Auro-3D®'s unique vertical stereo field all around the listener will provide that extra dimension for sound design and music mixing, making Auro-3D® the ultimate true 3D Immersive Sound format for film, music and games.

Strike Up the Brand: How to Boost Your Music Career with Partners and Sponsors (Presented by Billboard)
Time was when artists would steer clear of corporate sponsorships for fear of harming their creative image. Those days are long gone. Today “selling out” is in. Partnering with a company - or a brand - is now one of the best ways to raise your profile and get your music heard by a wide audience. By using examples of great brand/artist synergies, this panel will explore how writer-artists can attract and pitch brands, what brands are looking for in an artist, how you can be a good brand partner, working strategically so that you both achieve your goals, and, ultimately, how a brand partnership can pay off!

The line between composing and songwriting is slowly dissolving. These days, trained composers are helping major pop acts class up their sounds, and integrating new sounds into their scores. At the same time, songwriters from the rock and pop worlds are finding work in film, TV and beyond. At this panel, you’ll meet music creators working in the fertile ground between pop/rock and traditional film/TV composing. You’ll discover a wide variety of pathways you may not have considered, including arranging, production music, video games, podcasts, commercials and more.

Who Is He (and What Is He to You?): 'I Create Music' Interview with Bill Withers
You know a Bill Withers song when you hear it. Songs like “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean on Me,” “Lovely Day” and “Grandma’s Hands” share a sense of laid-back, effortless groove. Their lyrics document simple truths, straight-forward and profound. Bill’s songs are for everyone, but they sound like they could come from no other songwriter. While he’s achieved commercial success and earned the industry’s highest honors, Bill Withers has never once sacrificed his creative ideals - one of the many reasons he is an inspiration to songwriters and fans the world over. Just two weeks after his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Bill Withers will dispense wisdom about the importance of staying authentic to yourself, in music and in life. This candid interview will be a full-circle moment for interviewer Aloe Blacc, who attended the 2010 ASCAP EXPO specifically to hear Bill speak.

SoundExchange's Wade Metzler will explain what it is, why it pays and how to get your share. Registering (free!) with SoundExchange can earn you royalties on satellite radio, Internet radio, cable TV music channels and other sevices that stream sound recordings. Becoming a Member allows you to further maximize your royalties for streams around the world. SoundExchange is a non-profit, and an important source of revenue for all artists (big and small) and labels (indie and major): they've distributed over $2 billion to artists and labels so far. But thousands of artists and labels don't know they need to register, and millions in royalties haven't yet been claimed. Interactive and question-driven, this workshop will also cover need-to-know info on copyright, licensing, metadata and legislation that will affect your career.

This eternally awesome panel will offer live, no-holds-barred critiques of real websites. Our panelists will assess design, organization, content and functionality. How does the website fit with the artist's overall online strategy, and how successfully does it achieve the artist’s goals? Our experts have worked with hundreds of songwriters and musicians (including themselves), from major label superstars to secluded basement composers. They know all about website best practices, and they’re deeply allergic to bad design, music that auto-starts, Flash widgets and unreadable fonts. We’ve instructed each of our panelists to leave all diplomacy aside, so if you’re courageous enough to submit your website for their scrutiny, send a note to Bandzoogle’s Dave Cool: dcool@bandzoogle.com
